This stop is most assuredly off the beaten track. However, it was a stop I had set my mind on making. Driving along back roads and large rice fields, I got the true feel of the lay of the land.
The marker is in the Louisiana Purchase State Park in southeastern Arkansas.
I stopped in the early morning hours and truly appreciated the sounds of wildlife in the quiet of the marshland.
I was unfamiliar with surveyors' markings and found them fascinating. In addition to the surveyor's mark on the monument, there were other markers in the area, some of which were embedded in trees.

The walkout was navigable with a wheelchair, walker, or other assisted walking. I recommend using bug repellant as this is a swamp area with mosquitoes and other such creatures.
