Sometimes treasures warm the heart, delight the eye, and nourish the soul.
Walking the quaint streets of Penn Yan, NY, and stepping into Milly’s Pantry at 19 Main Street where the casual browser is greeted with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, I wandered among the artistic treasures made by locals.
A lovely selection of woodwork, artwork, baked goods, and handmade items that could decorate walls, fill pantries, and make delightful and delicious gifts. While browsing I began reading the history of the market and Cafe. It was then, to my delight that a volunteer began to explain the history in greater detail.
Milly’s Pantry started in 2007 with backpacks being filled with food for 23 children and now has expanded and serves nearly 500 students in Yates County. Milly Bloomquist a retired school teacher saw a need for children and brought her concept to life with a weekend backpack program to help feed children. Since its inception, the program has evolved into a charitable 501©3 organization and continues to bloom and provide more to this community.
The story regaled spoke of the dedication of not only the founder but also her family and the volunteers. The information shared with me warmed my heart on a chilly evening. History of the organization lightened my spirit learning the goodness emanating from the walls where I stood. Milly’s family continue the legacy of charity and with the assistance of volunteers, artist and patrons reach many more in need of good works.
A percentage of all sales displayed by artists is given to the 501 ©3 which supports the community needs of the children.

This was a truly heartwarming and delightful stop in my journeys around the area.
