Route 66 runs along Route 40 through New Mexico starting in Glenrio and out through Gallup for approximately 535 miles. One of my favorite stops in New Mexico is in Glenrio at Russells Truck and Travel Center. Good food and a Museum that was so very enjoyable. I stretched my legs and my eyes enjoyed everything there was to see.
Then on to Tucumcari to the Trade Station, Del’s Restaurant, Kix on 66, Tee Pee Curios, Blue Swallow motel, and the New Mexico Route 66 Museum. Lots of fun stuff.
Then I went off Route down to Fort Sumner to check out the Billy the Kid Museum and the Fort. I had a good time there as well. Roswell is another option in this area but, I opted out of that investigation.
On to Santa Rosa to the Route 66 Auto Museum, the Blue Hole, and the Santa Fe Loop before heading on to Albuquerque. Having done some Scuba I could truly appreciate the crystal clear depths of the Blue Hole.
In Albuquerque, one can wander down Old Town where one can enjoy the Breaking Bad tours. (Website listed below for RVs). Kimo Theatre is the 1927 Art Deco that has the flair of Art Deco. The Dog House and Police Substations well as the 66 Diner, the Madonna on the TrailElVado Motel, Rio Puerco Bridge, and the old Route 66 Casino Hotel that is presently a Barbershop when I went through.
Owl Rock is supposed to be located in New Laguna however, I was unable to locate it. However, I was able to locate Laguna Pueblo where the current residents have lived since at least 1300. The Attraction is San Jose Church however, visitors are welcome.
Santa Maria Mission is McCartys is presently not being utilized however, I did stop and appreciate its beauty.
In Grants one could visit the Mining Museum, it’s not my thing so I bypassed this stop and went on to the Neon Drive-Thru sign. The stop is the Continental Divide very close to the Indian Village Gift Shop and Indian Market. Then on to Gallup to the Route 66 Diner and El Rancho Hotel. Many Hollywood stars have stayed here during the Heyday of the Route as Gallup was a great location for western movies.
The majority of restaurants and attractions I stopped at in New Mexico were accessible to people with mobility challenges.
