Crossing over into Missouri one starts the journey from the north in St Louis. Route 66 runs in conjunction with State Route 44 across the state toward Kansas. Just over 210 miles of the iconic route run through Missouri.
In St Louis, one can see the New Chain of Rocks Bridge (which runs alongside the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge), The Gateway Arch, Donut Drive-In (a disappointment in my mind’s eye), and Ted Drews Frozen Custard.
In Eureka, you can see the Meramec Bridge and just down the road in Stanton and Cuba, there are plenty of things to see Jesse James Wax Museum, Meramec Caverns, Murals of Cuba, Wagon Wheel Motel, Missouri Hick Barbeque, and The Red Rocker. The size alone of the rocker was amazing, so many interesting things to see and do.
I truly enjoyed the murals in Cuba, it wasn’t something I was expecting to enjoy so much but I found them most enjoyable.
Pulaski County Museum, Motel Munger Moss, World’s Largest Gift Store in Phillipsburg took some time to walk through, In Springfield the Birthplace of Route 66, Gilloz Theatre, Rail Haven Motel, Steak ‘n Shake, and The Route 66 Car Museum are all fun stops.
If one goes off route they can run down to Branson and check out the country scene there.
Then in Carthage, there is the Boots Court Motel and the 66 Drive-in Theatre.
I loved seeing the Drive-In in such good condition. I had the hankering to catch a flick.
Once more I recommend that anyone with limitations research the locations you are anticipating seeing. There is a plethora of information available online. Stops that are accessible are the Route 66 Car Museum, Cuba murals, and the Drive-In. Safe travels!
