Slightly off the beaten path of the main highways in the vast state of Texas is a hidden gem for those who enjoy southern cooking in a charming venue that screams not only of Goats but of Texas roadside Honky Tonk.
This little stop is just outside of Canyon Lake in a quaint setting in Spring Branch at 4 Sun Valley Drive. Don’t blink you might miss it unless you go at night when the place is swinging with Country Music.
The setting at “the Goat” allows you to enjoy an outdoor venue where you can bring along your leased dog and enjoy the fresh air of rural Texas as well as enjoy the cute little penned goats or, if you prefer, sit indoors and relax with a crafted beer, one of their mixed drinks, or a house craft coffee. (I have yet to try anything on the menu I did not like.)
They have family-oriented events as well as adult entertainment and I find their website as well as their Facebook page to be kept current with upcoming events.
Wednesday nights are enjoyable for those who enjoy local musicians/songwriters. The evening is generally hosted by a local talented resident by the name of David Lee (a name that might ring a bell). He has written and co-written more than just a few great songs and takes time to promote other musicians hosted on Wednesday Songwriter Night at the Screaming Goat.
If anyone ever doubted Texas has a lack of musical talent they haven’t been here. For me, Honky Tonks like The Screaming Goat is just sheer enjoyment where kicking back, good eats, enjoyable company, and great entertainment all come together.

I have enjoyed several talented musicians/songwriters at this venue more than once and will go again (and again) as I love music and enjoy the atmosphere at the Goat. To just name a few I’ve enjoyed these performers: David Lee, Ruben V, Paul Logan, Dallas Moore, Jesse Lee, Gene Reeves, Chad Boyd, Steve Springer, Cameron Winkle, Gus Clark, Natalie Thompson, and the list goes on. The performers share stories and deliver their goods to ensure everyone has a great time, themselves included.

One of the things I appreciate the most in these sessions is how they enjoy and slide into one another’s groove. I love it when they jump in on the songs and pick along. It’s wonderful to feel the interactions and experience the sheer joy they have jamming together.

Now the music isn’t the only good stuff happening at the Screaming Goat; the food and drinks are downright good as well. Southern-style cooking helps one slide into the down-home feel of the Goat atmosphere.
Additionally, the Screaming Goat offers venues for rental to have your own private event in their unique setting.
This is one of those places in Texas that is atmospheric and full of good vibes, I truly believe their putting out good vibes is bringing good vibes back to them. I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere, meeting locals and just getting down with that great country feel. This venue is truly unique to other stops I’ve made and I find it relaxing as well as entertaining.
For guests with limitations, there are uneven surfaces and some narrow doorways present challenges however the site is listed as handicap accessible. If you can manage it as a stop I would highly recommend it.
